Tom Colicchio’s Craft
Craft in Century City sits directly behind the CAA building on Constellation Boulevard. It reminds me of so many restaurants in New York, with a power vibe & no stock exchange: modern decor and groups of men in business suits. It seemed like everyone there was on an expense account talking the next big deal.
- Can’t you just smell the money? Suits as far as the eye can see.
- Steak with roasted baby beets and Anson Mills grits. Heaven.
- The parsnip gave the gratin kind of a fresh, vanilla flavor. The roasted vegetables were cooked to perfection.
- Big fat delicious pillows with piquillo pepper and marcona almond. There was only one piquillo pepper! I wanted at least 2!
- Dessert is where my eyes always drift to first.
- Creme Fraiche Panna Cotta with spiced pear and vanilla shortbread is light as air.
- Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts with Valrhona chocolate. To die.
- Seriously, more after dessert? Yes please!
- To be fair, I’m not a huge fan of rillette, which is very similar to paté. Gorgeous presentation though.
- The Ellwood Risk painting seemed a bit out of place with the shooting gallery theme.
- The deep red blouse ties up like a present. (On sale at Barney’s years ago.) Purse from F21? Less than $10.
- The amuse-bouche was delightful and I can’t remember what was in it.
You won’t propose to your girlfriend at Craft, you’ll be signing your next big contract. I loved the local ingredients and the interesting twists on classics and tasted them for a fraction of the cost during Dine LA.
